Daily Elimination

An Ayurvedic Chew for Daily Elimination: My Favorite Flax & Salt Ritual
By Vaidya Jay

In Ayurveda, we always emphasize three stages of digestion: digest, assimilate, and eliminate. Most people pay attention to the first two, but elimination is often overlooked. And yet, it’s the most powerful sign of your internal health. If elimination isn’t happening regularly and gently, the whole system backs up—physically and energetically.

That’s why I want to show you a small but mighty ritual you can add to your day—a post-digestive chew using flax seeds and Himalayan salt.

My Simple Gut Hack After Meals

Every evening, I take about two tablespoons of flax seeds and drop them into a dry pan. No oil—just the seeds themselves. I let them roast until they begin to pop.

Then I add a pinch of Himalayan salt. Not too much—just enough to lightly coat the seeds. I give them a gentle stir, let them finish roasting, and allow them to cool.

Once they’re cooled, I store them in a small jar and keep it nearby. After lunch or dinner, I take a teaspoon, chew slowly and mindfully, and swallow.

This is my way of telling my gut, “I’ve got your back.”

Why This Works

Flax seeds are rich in healthy fats and both soluble and insoluble fiber. In Ayurveda, we describe certain qualities like slakshna—meaning slippery, smooth, and shiny. This chew brings exactly that quality into the gut. It lubricates, softens, and helps waste move smoothly through the colon.

No matter your dosha—Vata, Pitta, or Kapha—this practice supports natural peristalsis, the wave-like movement that keeps elimination flowing. And when the gut moves, the mind also clears.

The Experience

When I chew these seeds, the taste and texture remind me of popcorn—warm, nutty, grounding. There’s something very satisfying about it. It coats the mouth and throat in the best way, leaving you feeling both full and light.

It’s not just a digestive tool. It’s a moment of presence—a ritual that connects you with your body after a meal.

And honestly, your colon says thank you.

A Final Note

This is not about hitting your fiber quota. This is about daily support—a small action with a big impact. If you're feeling sluggish, bloated, or just want to add one mindful moment to your day, try this flax chew. It’s one of my simplest and most trusted tools for gut health.
