Tulsi is an aromatic shrub that originated in North-Central India.

Today, it grows throughout the eastern world tropics. The plant grows as high as 30-60 cm and has simple opposite green or purple leaves with a strong scent and hairy stems. The leaves are ovate, and a little toothed and have a petiole. The length is usually around 5 cm. The purplish flowers come in elongated racemes. Tulsi seeds are oval, shiny, and flattened. They are brown and have black spots on them.

Its flowers and fruits bloom during early winter season.
