A Mediterranean Classic, Reimagined with Ayurveda
This recipe is my Ayurvedic spin-off from the traditional hummus you might already love.
It’s simple, flavorful, and deeply supportive for digestion.
All you need are four ingredients:
Garbanzo beans, Hingvastak powder, lemon juice, and Himalayan salt — blended together with a little water to create a creamy dip that lights up your Agni (digestive fire) and supports your metabolism.
It’s the kind of recipe you can make in just a few minutes, but the benefits last long after the meal.
Why These Ingredients Matter
Garbanzo Beans
These are one of the most balanced vegetarian sources of protein. They provide strength and satiety without heaviness — perfect for maintaining energy through the day. In Ayurveda, garbanzo beans are grounding and nourishing, helping balance Vata and Pitta doshas.
Hingvastak Powder
The secret Ayurvedic ingredient.
Hingvastak is a traditional formula made from eight digestive herbs and spices, including cumin, black cumin, ajwain seeds, ginger, and rock salt. Together, they awaken Agni, remove gas and bloating, and support a calm, efficient gut.
Lemon Juice
Its light sourness helps stimulate the digestive enzymes, improve nutrient absorption, and gently cleanse the liver. Lemon brings brightness and vitality to any meal.
Himalayan Salt
A natural mineral salt that enhances the flavor while also supporting digestion and electrolyte balance. It gently stimulates salivary and gastric secretions, making food more digestible.
How to Make It
-
Add 1 cup of cooked garbanzo beans to a blender.
-
Add 1 teaspoon of Hingvastak powder, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and ¼ teaspoon Himalayan salt.
-
Pour in a little water and blend until smooth.
-
Add more water as needed for a creamy consistency.
-
Serve immediately or refrigerate for later use.
You can also drizzle a little olive oil on top before serving, or sprinkle more Hingvastak for flavor.
Ayurvedic Insight
This hummus isn’t just food — it’s medicine for your digestion.
The combination of protein, herbs, and digestive spices helps awaken Agni while keeping the gut calm and balanced.
It’s perfect before or alongside any meal, especially during cooler seasons when the metabolism naturally slows down.
If you often feel bloated or sluggish after eating, this simple dip can help reset your digestive rhythm.
