Quick Answer
What are the five things you can do every day for your eyes?
According to Vaidya Jay, five small habits, repeated daily, look after the eyes: a cold water splash morning and evening, eye exercises between near and far objects every two hours, a gentle massage of six marma points around the eyes, cooling the eyes with rose petal water, and letting them soak in Triphala ghee at night. Each takes about 30 seconds to two minutes.
In his words, "Five things that you can do every day to benefit your eyes and have them for 100 years."
Key Takeaways
- 🌿 Five habits, none longer than two minutes, repeated every day.
- 🌿 Ayurveda sees the eyes as the fire element, so cold water cools them, morning and evening.
- 🌿 Screens hold the eyes at one distance. Every two hours, look far, then near, then into every corner.
- 🌿 Six marma points sit around the eyes: two mid-eyebrow, two in front of the temples, two at the inner corners.
- 🌿 Rose petal water on the eyes for one to two minutes. Vaidya Jay makes his from Rose Petal Powder.
- 🌿 A tiny bit of Triphala ghee touched to the eyes at night. It stings a little; next day the eyes are ready.
- 🌿 The secret is to repeat. Longevity depends on the day-to-day routine.

- Cool the eyes with rose petal water. Put aromatic rose petal water on the eyes, pat them, and keep it on for one to two minutes.

"The secret is to repeat, because longevity depends on day-to-day routine that you repeat."
Number One · Cold Water
Why splash the eyes with cold water?
Because in Ayurveda the eyes run hot. A little cold water splashed into the eyes in the morning, and again in the evening, takes about 30 seconds. Vaidya Jay explains the reasoning:
"in Ayurveda we believe eyes are made out of fire element."
The largest amount of blood vessels come to the eyes, he says, and they need to be cooled down, especially after irritation or overuse. Cold water splashing is the first habit, and the simplest.
Number Two · Eye Exercises
What are simple eye exercises for screen days?
Move the eyes. Every two hours, look at a distant object, then a near object, a distant object, a near object, and then look into every corner of your eyes. It takes 30 seconds. The reason is the screen:
"Laziness of the eyes starts when you keep focusing your eyes on one object at the same distance, like our screens."
Far and near, a few times over, from time to time. That is the whole exercise.
Number Three · The Six Marma Points
Where are the six marma points for the eyes?
Marma are the prana points of Ayurveda. Vaidya Jay touches six of them around the eyes:
"whenever you get a little tired, touch these prana points, which are called as marma."
- Two right in the middle of the eyebrows.
- Two at the end of the eyebrows, on the bone just in front of the temples.
- Two at the inner canthus, the inner corner of the eye, where the nasal bone meets the frontal bone.
Gently massage them every couple of hours when the eyes are working too hard, for work or for entertainment. In his words:
"Six points that you're going to touch around your eyes, which will improve the flow of energy and also life force to the eyes."
Number Four · Rose Petal Water
How do you cool the eyes with rose petal water?
"Number four, cool your eyes by aromatic rose petal water."
Put some aromatic rose petal water on the eyes, pat them, and keep it on for about a minute to two minutes. Vaidya Jay prepares his rose water from Athreya Rose Petal Powder, a traditional Ayurvedic ingredient valued for its soothing, cooling and nourishing properties.
He filmed the whole method on the same day: two cotton pads, rose water, 30 seconds. Watch How Do You Refresh Tired Eyes in 30 Seconds? Rose Water Eye Pads.
Number Five · Triphala Ghee
How do you use Triphala ghee for the eyes?
Lastly, take a tiny bit of Triphala ghee, look to one side and touch it to the eye, then the other side, and let the eyes soak in it. Triphala Ghritam is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation prepared by infusing Triphala, amalaki, haritaki and vibhitaki, in pure ghee. Athreya makes it as Triphala Gritham.
"Stings a little bit, but next day your eyes are ready to rock and roll."
Vaidya Jay does this one at night. His full nightly ritual, step by step, is in What Is Triphala Ghee for the Eyes?

What are the eye exercises in Ayurveda?

Where are the six marma points for the eyes?
Two in the middle of the eyebrows, two at the end of the eyebrows on the bone just in front of the temples, and two at the inner canthus, where the nasal bone meets the frontal bone. Vaidya Jay gently massages them every couple of hours when his eyes are working hard.
How do you use rose petal water for the eyes?

How do you use Triphala ghee for the eyes?
Take a tiny bit of Triphala ghee, sold by Athreya as Triphala Gritham, look to one side and touch it to the eye, then the other side, and let the eyes soak in it. Vaidya Jay says it stings a little, and the next day the eyes are ready to rock and roll. He does it at night.
How long does the whole routine take?
Almost nothing. The splash and the exercises take about 30 seconds each, the marma points a minute, the rose petal water one to two minutes, and the ghee a moment before bed. Vaidya Jay says the secret is to repeat, because longevity depends on a daily routine.

This is a traditional Ayurvedic teaching. It is education, not medical advice.
Namaste! Vaidya Jay here. Five things that you can do every day to benefit your eyes and have them for 100 years. I am here to teach you life-changing simple things that you can repeat. The secret is to repeat, because longevity depends on day-to-day routine that you repeat.
Number one, you're going to do every day in the morning a little bit of cold water splashing into your eyes. Same thing in the evening. Takes 30 seconds. It helps tremendously because in Ayurveda we believe eyes are made out of fire element. Or if you look at the largest amount of blood vessels that come to the eyes need to be cooled down, because if you have any kind of […] irritation or overuse, you need to calm it down. Cold water splashing.
Number two, simple eye exercises to […]. Laziness of the eyes starts when you keep focusing your eyes on one object at the same distance, like our screens. If we move our eyes to distant and closer objects will be the second thing that you do from time to time. Every two hours you look at distant object and a near object, a distant object, a near object, and then you also look at every corner of your eyes. Takes 30 seconds.
Third thing is, whenever you get a little tired, touch these prana points, which are called as marma. Six points that you're going to touch around your eyes, which will improve the flow of energy and also life force to the eyes. Two, right at the middle of your eyebrows. Next two, at the end of your eyebrows, right on the zygomatic bone here, on the frontal bone, right here where the temples are, but real little front of the temples. Third one, right at the inner canthus, like right here, the inner canthus, where the nasal bone meets the frontal bone. So this, two here, two here, six points that you need to gently massage every couple of hours if you are using your eyes too much for your work or for entertainment.
Number four, cool your eyes by aromatic rose petal water. So put some rose petal water on your eyes, even pat them, and then keep it on the eyes for about a minute to two minutes.
Lastly, you take triphala ghee, pour a little bit and touch your eyes with it. You go look this way and touch your eye, go liquid and touch your eye, and then just let your eyes soak in that ghee. Stings a little bit, but next day your eyes are ready to rock and roll.
